Getting Better through CSR - it's not about being the best but to contribute to change that creates results isn't it? Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a thing and Sustainability is a Journey - And it's a long uphill slog sometimes, yet so rewarding to receive acknowledgement for Greatest Improvement, on the way, the reality is in the result!! This year's effort across a whole range of issues from Social & Ethical to Environmental and Sustainable Fabrics to Aftercare, was so worthwhile, we are feeling so inspired to receive this recognition from Behind the Barcode.
Key areas highlighted for change were, more transparency, inclusivity, and improving customer facing information for increased clarity and implementing a Worker's Voice platform. We came together to brainstorm ideas such as saving resources, paper and fabric, dead stock, to utilising a new platform for which helps us understand factory workers situations and better understand how to help protect their rights and address Modern Slavery issues. It takes vision and investment from the top and a solid base of support to improve, as there is simply so much still to do to create a better way of doing business, especially in fashion and producing clothing.
Many methods and strategies we employ are relevant in other industries too and indeed, as fashion leads the way we have responsibility to inspire ands influence others. With help from Industry experts in assessing environmental factors from ongoing audits to a deep dive Environmental Assessment Report (EAR) into harmful chemicals, the processes and by products of clothing production, we are now better able to identify areas for improvement. Absolutely, "what is measured can my managed", and with independent audit data we can see what to do, the results we get year on year, which really helps.
Teamwork plays a huge part of getting these results. People are our greatest asset with so many great ideas and contributions, it's been a companywide collaboration, let's make sure they are happy and well treated to keep doing a better job. Our team worked tirelessly from sourcing, through design to marketing and invested in the business model to make improvements which contribute to the way the company works and the legacy we produce. Onwards and upwards!
